Welcome to the Shuri Dojo International Kyokai (首里道場国際協会).
Shuri Dojo, established in 1986, has long emphasised traditional practice rooted in historical context, practical application, and a clear understanding of the original intent of Okinawan fighting arts.
The Shuri Dojo International Kyokai was formed in 2025 as a natural extension of that work, providing a framework for research, shared study, and connection beyond the physical dojo.
The Kyokai is dedicated to the study of classical Ryukyu karate and kobudo, with an emphasis on historical context, practical understanding, and careful examination of the art as it was originally intended.
We welcome practitioners with an interest in the Ryukyu martial arts, regardless of style or affiliation, who value thoughtful practice, traditional principles, and an honest engagement with the past.
The Kyokai is research-driven, independent, and intentionally free from unnecessary politics, excessive fees, and rigid hierarchy. Affiliation is based on shared principles rather than conformity.
Our aim is to support shared study, preserve cultural context, and foster meaningful connections between practitioners who approach karate as a serious and reflective discipline.
