Welcome to the Shuri Dojo International Kyokai.

This website exists to support the study, preservation, and thoughtful examination of classical Ryukyu karate and kobudo. It has been created as a place for shared reference, reflection, and connection for practitioners who value historical context, practical understanding, and honest enquiry.

The Kyokai is not concerned with competition, sport, or performance. Nor is it focused on rigid hierarchy or institutional politics. Instead, it exists to encourage study grounded in the original intent, aims, and methods of the Okinawan fighting arts, and to provide space for those who wish to explore them seriously and responsibly.

Karate, for many, becomes a lifelong pursuit. Over time, it reveals far more than physical technique — it challenges assumptions, tests understanding, and invites continual reassessment. The Kyokai is intended to support that ongoing process rather than define it.

The material on this site reflects that approach. Some readers will recognise familiar ideas; others may encounter perspectives that challenge what they have been taught. Both responses are valid.

Further information regarding affiliation and participation can be found within the site. Those who feel aligned with the principles outlined here are welcome to explore further.
