Membership with the Shuri Dojo International Kyokai exists to support shared study, research, and connection among practitioners with an interest in classical Ryukyu karate and kobudo.

The Kyokai is not a governing body, accrediting organisation, or federation. It does not issue rank, certify grades, control curriculum, or interfere in the teaching, grading, or internal affairs of individual practitioners or dojos.

Membership is based on shared values and approach rather than hierarchy, title, or conformity.

Who Membership Is For

Membership is open to individuals and groups who:

• have an interest in the historical, cultural, and practical study of Ryukyu martial arts
• value thoughtful practice and honest enquiry
• wish to engage in discussion and shared research without political or organisational pressure
• prefer independence of practice while remaining connected to like-minded practitioners

No change of style, syllabus, or existing affiliation is required.

What Membership Means

Membership with the Kyokai provides:

• access to shared information and resources
• connection with practitioners who value traditional context and pragmatic understanding
• participation in ongoing discussion and study

Affiliation does not imply endorsement of rank, authority over instruction, or formal recognition of grades.

Structure and Fees

At present, the Kyokai maintains a deliberately simple structure.

There are no levels, titles, or tiers of affiliation. Any administrative contributions, if required, are minimal and exist solely to support the maintenance of shared resources.

Details are discussed openly and personally.

A Note on Independence

The Shuri Dojo International Kyokai respects the autonomy of all affiliated practitioners and dojos. Its role is supportive rather than supervisory.

Affiliation reflects shared principles, not obligation.
